Summary: Severo Ochoa’s love for research and medicine started at an early age, similar to his love for this future wife, Carmen García Cobián. We accompany this Asturian scientist from the beaches of Luarca during his childhood to odyssey through various countries around the world: His happy life and work in Madrid, the proclamation of Spain’s Second Republic, the Civil War, the couple’s exile following the war, his years in Nazi Germany, where Severo witnessed the horrific persecution of Jewish friends, and his arrival in New York, where at last he is awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine.

Resumen: El amor de Severo Ochoa por la investigación y la medicina empezó a temprana edad, como su amor por la que después sería su mujer, Carmen García Cobián. Desde su niñez en las playas de Luarca asistimos al periplo del científico asturiano por distintos países del mundo: El trabajo y la vida alegre en Madrid, la proclamación de la Segunda República, la Guerra Civil, el exilio de la pareja a consecuencia de la guerra, sus años en la Alemania nazi, donde Severo presenció dolorosas persecuciones a compañeros judíos, y su llegada a Nueva York, donde finalmente conseguiría el Nobel de Medicina.

The careful restoration of image and sound revised and approved by the director himself affords us a viewing of the film as never before seen.

Resumen: Guerín propone en este documental un viaje a Irlanda en busca de las huellas dejadas en Innisfree por el rodaje de la mítica película de John Ford El hombre tranquilo. Una cuidada restauración de imagen y sonido revisada y aprobada por el propio director nos presentan esta obra como nunca antes se había podido ver.

Summary: The director brings us into a haunted house in search of the ghosts which linger on in the interior of this family film shot at the start of the 20th century. His images, studied in the minute detail of a detective, reveal family secrets which have remain hidden for years. Guerin personally supervised the restoration work of the whole film.

Resumen: El director nos adentra en una casa encantada en busca de los fantasmas que aún perviven en el interior de una película familiar rodada a principios de siglo. Sus imágenes, estudiadas con metodologías detectivescas desvelarán secretos familiares que durante años han permanecido ocultos. Guerin ha supervisado personalmente las labores de restauración de todo el metraje.

Summary : Before directing “En la Ciudad de Sylvia”, José Luís Guerin spent a great deal of time filming and working with a series of notes which here the light of day. This film’s narrative is completely independent to that of “En la Ciudad de Sylvia”. It consists of a succession of black and white photographs without soundtrack. Time jumps between one photo and the next, like a mystery escaping.

Resumen : Antes de realizar En la Ciudad de Sylvia, José Luís Guerin pasó gran cantidad de tiempo filmando y trabajando con una serie de apuntes que ahora ven la luz bajo el título de Unas Fotos en la Ciudad de Sylvia. Esta película posee total independencia narrativa con respecto a esta. Consiste en una sucesión de fotografías en blanco y negro, mudas. Entre una foto y otra hay un tiempo que se fuga, un misterio que se escapa.

Summary: Lars Belden, an estate agent, married with a son, suddenly witnesses his life come to a standstill the 29th February. By chance, he reads in a newspaper about the suicide of Sela Huber, his ex-girlfriend. The curiosity and love her he still feels for her lead him to go to her flat. There he discovers that her study, which had never before been entered by anyone else, is full of tapes in which she obsessively recorded her life. Bit by bit he pieces together Sela’s past, plus that of others who played a role in her life and in his own. This whole process, over the course of three days, helps him to understand both Sela and himself, and more importantly, to understand why she ended their relationship, and why he stopped his great passion, writing.

Resumen: Lars Belden, vendedor de casas, casado y con un hijo, ve cómo su vida se detiene un 29 de febrero. Por casualidad lee en un periódico la noticia del suicidio de Sela Huber, su antigua novia. La curiosidad y el amor que todavía siente por ella le arrastran a visitar el piso de Sela. Allí descubrirá que el estudio, donde nunca dejaba entrar a nadie, está lleno de cintas donde ella grababa compulsivamente toda su vida. De una manera desordenada irá dando forma a todo el pasado de Sela, de otras personas que se cruzaron en su vida y de él mismo. Todo esto, durante tres noches, le ayudará a entenderla y a sí mismo y, lo más importante, por qué acabó su relación y por qué él dejó de escribir, su gran pasión.

Summary: Jara, stocky but shy, leads a solitary life as a security guard in a supermarket in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is his job to monitor the security cameras from a small room. Since he works the nightshift and not much happens, he does more or less what he would at home: he watches DVDs, does the crossword and listens to music. But one day his life changes when he meets one of the cleaning ladies by chance. At first he watches her through the security cameras, but soon he begins following her when she goes to the cinema, the beach, and even she goes out with a man. Soon Jara’s life consists of a series of rituals and routines revolving around Julia.

Resumen: Jara es un hombre solitario, tan corpulento como tímido, que trabaja de guarda de seguridad en un supermercado de Montevideo. Se encarga de controlar los monitores desde un cuarto. Dado que tiene el turno de noche y no hay mucho movimiento, hace más o menos lo mismo que haría en su casa: ver películas, hacer crucigramas y escuchar música. Pero un día su vida cambia al descubrir por casualidad a Julia una de las mujeres de la limpieza. Al principio, Jara se limita a observarla a través de las cámaras de seguridad, pero no tarda en empezar a seguirla cuando va al cine, a la playa, e incluso cuando sale con otro hombre. Así, pronto la vida de Jara consistirá en una serie de pequeños rituales y rutinas alrededor de Julia.

Cosas insignificantes

Summary: Sometimes in order to see the positive side of life, we have to go through difficult experiences. This is the case for various characters, Iván, Eli, Paola and Esmeralda. Their paths cross thanks to small objects which they have lost at some point, leading them to learn an important lesson: the really important things in life are not material things.

Resumen: Para descubrir el lado positivo da la vida, a veces, tenemos que pasar alguna experiencia difícil. Éste es el caso de varios personajes, Iván, Eli, Paola y Esmeralda. Sus vidas se irán entrecruzando a través de pequeños objetos que en algún momento perdieron, lo que les llevará a aprender una gran lección: las cosas que realmente importan en la vida, no son cosas.
